Specifications

Size

HHIP 8600-0131 Pro-Series Arbor Press is a one ton press, which is about as much as can be expected from a press that is mounted on a table or desk. Either way, it has enough space and power to deliver on this front, making it a reliable pick.

Weight

Considering that the press is cast iron, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it is an approximate thirty three pounds.

This is pretty hefty, but thankfully this is the kind of tool that you aren’t going to be carrying around very often. As long as your workbench is sturdy enough, this weight should have no negative drawbacks for you.

Tool Specifics

As mentioned previously, this is a one ton cast iron press. It already has the base drilled so it can be mounted to a workbench or table, and it has a removable machined steel anvil that can be used in four different slot positions.

The ram can have punches or other tools added to the end of it with the help of magnetic inserts. It has 5.5 inches capacity over the table, 14 inches of height, and 8.24 maximum inches in diameter.

The diameter of the ram hole is half an inch. An arbor press bit set is included as well.

Special Features

Like pretty much every press, this one from HHIP is quite simple and straightforward. Considering that it does a very simple job, it doesn’t need too many fancy special features to do it.

Aside from the aforementioned ability to use different punches and tools on the ram with some magnetic aid (not all rams have this ability), there isn’t much else to consider a ‘special feature’ of the 8600. That said this isn’t a mark against its quality, as it doesn’t need anything else to do what it was designed for.

Performance

When it comes to performance, there’s really only one question to ask of a press; can it press things with the amount of force it was intended to? The answer to this question is a solid yes, in that you can have no doubt whatsoever that this press is able to put forth one ton of force on whatever you use it on.

That said, it is a manual press, but this is less a matter of performance and more of one of convenience. Ultimately, the 8600 Pro Series is more than capable of performing its intended purposes effortlessly and efficiently.

Package and Warranty

An item’s package includes everything that comes with your purchase of it. The package for this product obviously includes the press, but it also comes with a three piece punch set; a round one that is fourteen millimeters in diameter, a point that is fourteen millimeters at its largest point, and a nine millimeter square.

The manufacturer’s warranty can be requested if you wish.

Pricing

HHIP 8600-0131 Pro-Series Arbor Press costs approximately $114.00. This is admittedly not an astounding price, but it isn’t a bad one either.

It is about average when you consider the cost of all one ton presses across the board. You might be able to find a cheaper one somewhere, but it probably wouldn’t save you more than a few dollars at best.

Considering that this press is cast iron and therefore very resilient, you are already getting a pretty good deal with the price of this tool.

Safety Tips

While you don’t have to do this in order to use your press, it is highly recommended that you properly secure any press you use to your workbench for much needed stability.

The amount of force being used in these situations means accidental slips or mishaps could be very dangerous, so the extra security is always advised.

Bottom Line

HHIP 8600-0131 Pro-Series Arbor Press is a straightforward and simple one ton press. It can easily do exactly what it was designed to do, and it has a bit of versatility thanks to the ability to attach punches and other tools to the ram magnetically.

With a cast iron body the tool is also very resilient, so you don’t have to worry about how long it will last. Breaking it would be almost impossible.

Furthermore, the price is about what you could expect as an average. It isn’t the cheapest around, but not the most expensive either, so if you want to get a good quality tool for a good price, the 8600 also meets your demands on that front.

Pros

  • The base is already drilled and ready for installation onto a workbench or desk
  • Magnetic attachment ability lets it use different tools for different jobs
  • Cast iron constructions gives it unparalleled durability and resilience, making it almost invulnerable
  • Price is good, not amazing, but also not terrible

Cons

  • Nothing truly special about it, so nothing sets it apart from any other press out there
