Palmgren Arbor Press Review: Durable Power Tool

 Palmgren Arbor Press Review

Nearly every workshop needs a powerful press, and the Palmgren Arbor press is an ideal choice if you need an affordable but powerful one. This table sized press is capable of exerting a great deal of force for its size, and it is tough and durable.

You’ve always been able to rely on this company for producing reliable tools, so if you really want something that will always come through for you, the Palmgren Arbor press will almost definitely meet all of your expectations.

Product Overview

Product: Palmgren Arbor Press

Cheapest Place to Buy:

Unique Feature: Replaceable Jaw Plates

My Rating: 9.7 out of 10

With dimensions of 9 x 5 x 9 inches, the Palmgren Arbor press is quite small. It won’t take up a lot of space on your table, so it’s a great addition if you have limited workspace available to you. And of course, this small size makes storage and transport easier as well.

While small, this press is of course still somewhat heavy, weighing about nineteen pounds. Of course, the tool rests on a workbench or other platform, so this weight doesn’t really have any negative repercussions.

The only real drawback here is the task of getting it on your workbench, and that’s hardly a real hassle.

Tool Specifics

This is a 0.5 ton press. Clearly, it’s quite powerful for a tool that is small enough to be lifted by hand. As for the size of an object that you can fit into the press for it to be used in the first place, that height is four and a half inches, is the bottom plate is removed.

As you can see, while powerful, the Palmgren Arbor press can really only use its power on smaller objects. So if you need a press for larger objects, unfortunately this one won’t cut it for you.

It comes with a trapezoidal head screw, and the length of the shaft hole is .308. The press itself is non-ratcheting.

Special Features

The Palmgren Arbor is just a basic press. It doesn’t have much in the way of unique features, but then again, you generally don’t need a press to have a bunch of fancy bells and whistles to do its job.

Even so, it has some things going for it. It is a solid steel construction, so it is definitely tough and unlikely to break. But, it does have replaceable jaw plates in case something bad does happen. It has a magnetic insert so that punches or tools can be added to the end of the ram, and it has less than 0.002″ jaw deflection at 2,000 lbs.

In short, this press isn’t groundbreaking technology or anything, but it certainly has the capability to get jobs in its weight class done.

Package and Warranty

An item’s package includes everything that comes with your purchase of it. That said there is nothing to come along with this purchase other than the press itself.

However, it does come with a two year warranty, which is twice as long as the norm, a typical one year limited warranty. Of course something as tough and simple as a press is unlikely to get damaged beyond use, but if it does it is nice to have a longer warranty than usual.

As stated above, this Palmgren Arbor press is not anything exceptional, per se. It isn’t equipped with anything special that sets it apart from all the competition, and it won’t revolutionize the way you work in the garage.

But it does exactly what it is designed to do, and it does it well. So long as you use it the way it was meant to be, that being with the intended materials, force application, and setup, it will almost never fail you.

If you have the right expectations, the performance of this press will meet them.

This Palmgren Arbor press is approximately $82.00. This is quite affordable for a sturdy and powerful tool that gets the job done.

Of course this press isn’t the absolute most powerful, nor is it very large, so the range of its usefulness is limited to certain tasks.

However, if all you need to complete are tasks within that limited range, than why spend more money on a larger, more expensive press when this one will do just fine?

Bottom Line

This Palmgren Arbor press is small but powerful, tough and affordable. Because it is such a simple tool, there really is no downside to it. It doesn’t have any real flaws, other than its inherent size limiting what all it can do.

But as said previously, if you only need a small press with relatively small power, this one is reliable and quite inexpensive. Because it is basic it only has functions it can perform, and not flaws that hold it back.

  • Can exert great force for its small size and weight
  • Magentic attachment ability lets it use different tools for different jobs
  • Comes with a two-year warranty, which is twice as long as the typical tool warranty
  • Solid steel constructions means it is tough and durable
  • Is quite affordable for its class, compared to the competition

  • Nothing truly special about it, so nothing sets it apart from any other press out there
  • Because it is small it can only function on objects with a length of four and half inches or less
  • Will probably need to be bolted to a workbench to get the maximum amount of power out of it
